Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’ is one of the 20th Century’s most powerful works of Art. Munch created four versions of The Scream. The Scream is one of the most popular works of Art, being immortalised on T-Shirts, Mugs, Key rings, etc, etc.
The Scream has now been produced as an Emoji. As an Art student in the 1970’s, I studied Expressionism in detail and wrote a thesis on this legendary school of art. The Scream was one of those haunting works of Art which once you see, you never forget. I was fascinated therefore to discover this Emoji.
Emoji’s as we know are fun and are aimed to replace words in text messages and emails. They don’t confess to being works of Art but I thought the ‘Emoji Scream’ should follow it’s illustrious master and be depicted in various guises. Whether it is Art or not is not the point. Emoji’s are fun, succinct and effective means of communicating quickly which in many ways is one definition of Art.
Please take a look at the ‘Emoji Scream’ on Pinterest. My name is Steve Howard. You have been reading the Digital Circus.
