Alberto Korda’s famous photograph of Che Guevara has been called the most powerful photograph of the 20th Century. Korda amazingly made the photograph free for public use. Consequently, it has added to its popularity, having been used in every conceivable form of advertising in the past fifty years. Korda only objected once to the use of Che Guevara’s image and that was Smirnoff’s use of the image for an alcohol advert.
How many people are so famous that there silhouette is instantly recognisable? Most would suggest, ‘The Beatles, Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. In my humble opinion, Che Guevara’s silhouette is still the most iconic and I think the most powerful. This famous silhouette of Che is lifted straight from Korda’s original photograph. You see it on T-Shirts, adverts etc, etc.
My small tribute to this iconic silhouette can be found on Pinterest. I think you will agree, this image is still incredibly powerful. Korda liked the photograph as he said is perfectly captured the implacability Che Guevara. The silhouette has this power also.
Enjoy the images. My name is Steve Howard. You have been reading the Digital Circus.
